Bath Bomb Ingredients
Bath bombs in their most basic form are a combination of baking soda and citric acid. These two ingredients are combined to create a "fizzing" reaction when introduced to water. Additional ingredients are added to create a more relaxing and enjoyable bathing experience. Not all ingredients listed here are in every bath bomb we create. You can view the ingredients used in your bath bomb within the product page of that specific item.
Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate) - The base of all of our bath bombs is baking soda. Mixed with citric acid, it creates a fizzing reaction when introduced to water. Additionally, baking soda makes your bath water feel silky.
Citric Acid (citric acid) - You can't make a bath bomb without citric acid! Citric acid creates the fun bubbles you see when you place your bath bomb into water.
Arrowroot Powder (maranta arundinacea root) - This ingredient is the starch extracted from the arrowroot plant. It is used to create a firmer bomb less prone to breakage. This is particularly helpful for protecting our bath bombs during shipping so you receive an intact product.
SLSa (sodium lauryl sulfoacetate) - SLSa is a very mild surfactant used to create foam and bubbles. It is safely used in many products including liquid soaps and bubble baths.
Sunflower Oil (helianthus annuus) - Sunflower oil is a very light oil that we use as both a binding agent (to hold our bath bombs together) and as an emollient.
Almond Oil (prunus amygdalus dulcis oil) - Also a very light oil that we use to bind and as an emollient.
Cocoa Butter (theobroma cacao seed butter) - This is a much heavier and denser oil that we use to keep "extras" from falling off of your bath bomb. This includes items such as sea salt, soap sprinkles, and rose petals, amongst others. It is solid at room temperate but melts at higher temperatures.
Poly80 (polysorbate 80) - Polysorbate 80 is an emulsifier. Emulsifiers are used to help water and oil mix. This is necessary to keep oil from clinging to the sides of your tub or sitting on top of your bath water. It also helps to disperse lake colorants.
Modified Tapioca Starch (natrasorb) - This ingredient is great for anchoring fragrances! It helps your bath bomb retain its scent long after production.
